Grainstore brewery was founded in 1995 by two friends: Tony Davis , formally the head brewer and Production Director of Ruddles Brewery and Mike Davies, Managing Director of Davro Fabrications. With their combined skills and experience, they decided that a derelict Victorian railway building would be the ideal location for a small brewery. Having recieved the keys in January 1995 to their own brewery, the renovation began. New doors and windows were added keeping with the orignal building layout.
The old three storey building offered the potential of becoming an ideal brew house. Following renovation of the building, modifications, sourcing and positioning of the plant within the first top two floors, the brewery tap on the ground floor was furnished and ready for use. The brewery was finshed and opened its doors for business in September 1995.
The first brew of "Cooking" was their first brew created two months after their opening. Nowadays, Tony's son William and their business partner Peter Atkinson continue to manage the brewery brewing traditional English Ales and supplying over hundreds of free trade outlets as well as wholesalers and nationwide beer festivals.

Doom Bar's story begans in 1994 in Rock, Cornwall where the Sharps Brewery was founded by enterprising brewer Bill Sharp. He was on a mission; To make exceptional quality beer on the North Cornish Coast. With a small micro brew plant and an ambition to brew 500 pints per week to pay the mortage, Sharps beer was born. Their beer has developed a signature style that continues to this day thanks to their time honoured brewing techniques and only the finest quality ingredients. Balanced, elegant, highly drinkable with a complexity of flavours and a moreish finish.
Doom Bar gets its name from the treacherous sandbank at the mouth of the Camel Estuary near Sharp's home at Rock. Accomplished and precise, Doom Bar is the epitomy of consistency, balance and moreish appeal resulting in the UK no.1 selling cask beer.
